Hello All,

As I write this newsletter I am at the Rosario Resort Marina on Orcas Island. Orcas Island is the largest of the beautiful San Juan Islands in the State of Washington. The San Juans are the best place in the world to see the endangered Orcas (Killer) Whales; because they live in the islands year around.  There are various volunteer opportunities available on this archipelago due to the natural beauty and habitat. They are centered around environmental concerns and history. Those of you who have been longtime subscribers to this newsletter know that I believe the most rewarding international volunteer programs are those that a community desires and in which they participate with the volunteers.  The lead off article in this issue contains some excellent ideas about how to find an ethical program and what to consider when choosing a volunteer program.
